How to write the letter V
The capital V is written in one stroke, and the small v in one stroke. The worksheet above is already set to this letter. It shows a model of each letter with green numbered start points and red direction arrows, then rows of dotted copies to trace and empty space to write on your own. Change the letter case, the size or the number of rows in the settings.
Capital V
Start at the top left and slide down to a point at the bottom. Then go straight back up to the top right, in one stroke.
Small v
Draw the same shape as the capital V, but smaller, starting at the middle line, sliding down to a point on the base line and back up to the middle line.
Teaching tip for V
The bottom of a v is a clear point, not a curve. A rounded v looks like a u. Both sides should be the same length and slope.
The sound of V and words to practice
The letter V usually stands for the sound /v/ as in van (top teeth on the lower lip). Words to practice: van, violin, vase, vest, volcano, vegetables. Say each word, listen for the first sound and trace the letter. Try the beginning sounds worksheets to match the sound to pictures, or trace the words themselves with word tracing.
Letters that look alike
The letter V is easy to mix up with Letter Uu and Letter Ww. Practice them on separate days, one at a time, and say the starting point out loud each time before the pencil touches the paper.
